Zodwa and Modise Moatlhodi agonised over this matter for a long while and upon meditating on Matthew 22:37 which says: “To love the Lord with all our heart, mind and soul as well as loving our neighbours as we love ourselves” and Ecclesiastes 12:13 which says: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments and this is the whole duty of man” they felt called of God to undertake this mammoth task.
Modise and Zodwa Moatlhodi purpose statement says: “Taba ya rona fatsheng lena ke ho rata Jesu le ho tsibisa baheso thabo e fumanwang ho yena hore hlompho, teboho le poko di iswe ho Ntate le Mora le ho Moya o halalelang jwale le kamehla”, loosely translated to mean that our purpose on this earth is to love Jesus and inform our people about the joy that is found in Him so that honour, thanksgiving , praise and worship be given to God the father, and God the Son and God the Holy Spirit now and forever more ; and their personal Vision; Mission; Function Statement and approach detailed herein below has inspired them and infused them with passion to commit to the task at hand and keep their zeal as per Romans 12:11, where Paul says: “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”:
Vision Statement: To preach the Gospel, make disciples of all nations and teach them to obey all commandments of the Lord. Matthew 28:19 -20
Mission Statement: To co-labour with God in knowing and making Christ known to others by building the body of Christ until we all reach unity in the faith and knowledge of the Son of God, so that we become mature and attain the fullness of Christ with the manifestation of the fruit; power and gifts of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Function Statement: We recognise that Modise Moatlhodi is called to function as an Evangelist and Prophet and Zodwa Moatlhodi as a Pastor and Teacher.
Approach: Work in partnership with the Local, Regional and National AFM Structures as well as partner with other s in the targeted area.
Modise and Zodwa Moatlhodi then decided to interrupt their successful careers in financial services and psychological services respectively to purpose theological studies to prepare to enter the ministry. They were assessed upon completion of their studies at the seminary and placed on internship/apprenticeship for 12 and 24 months respectively. They completed their intern/apprenticeship and upon assessment by local, regional and national structures of the AFM of South Africa were recommended for ordination and accreditation as pastors in right standing of the Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa.
They however, have received a tacit go-ahead to plant the new assembly from their pastor and mentor Rev. Dr Frank Chikane, their home and now sending assembly of AFM Naledi, their host intern/apprentice pastor Zandile Peter Manyike and the AFM Thulani-Doornkop Assembly, their AFM Regional leadership of Central Gauteng. Modise and Zodwa Moatlhodi are accomplished professionals with the following short resumes:
Zodwa Moatlhodi holds an MA in Clinical Psychology (RAU now UJ), BA Honours (UNISA), BA Social Work (UNIN now University of Limpopo), Diploma in Business Management (Technikon Witwatersrand, now University of Johannesburg. She is a top female clinical psychologist with more than 15 years of experience in the field. She also consults on social welfare, HIV/AIDS, social cohesion, provides psychotherapy, research and psychometric assessments. She has consulted on organisational development and coaching for a number of companies and parastatals in South Africa. She has recently attained Bachelor of Theology (B.th) from Auckland Park Seminary and completed her internship to be ordained as an accredited Pastor of the Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa
Modise Moatlhodi is an ex-CEO of Absa Africa Commercial Bank, was an Exco member and head of Absa Corporate and Business Bank Large Business Segments, was Exco member and led Absa Corporate and Business Bank Sectors and Markets. Before joining Absa he was CEO of a Public Sector Banking division and Exco member of Firstrand, one of the large financial services company in South Africa. He sat on a number of private and public sector boards from which he has recently resigned to focus on Moatlhodi Group (Pty) Ltd and now the AFM Honeydew Community Church. He holds a B.Com (U.J, SA) and MBA (De Montfort University, UK) and several diplomas in accounting, finance and marketing. He has over 20 years experience in the financial services sector. He has has recently attained Bachelor of Theology (B.th) from Auckland Park Seminary in Johannesburg and completed his internship to be ordained as an accredited Pastor of the Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa.
